The image of The Devine Mercy shows the specific way in which Jesus revealed himself to St. Faustina (then, Sister Faustina) in 1931. While Saint Faustina had many apparitions of Jesus as The Devine Mercy, it was her apparition on February 22, 1931, that led her to paint the image, as Jesus instructed her to do so. During another apparition, Jesus also told St. Faustina of his desire to have the image be displayed in public on the first Sunday after Easter, making that the Feast of Mercy. Today, this is celebrated a Devine Mercy Sunday.
