It was Peregrine who, during an uprising against the pope, struck St. Philip Benizi in the face. When Philip offered the other cheek, Peregrine repented and converted. Heeding Phillip’s counsel to go to the cathedral and pray to Our Lady, Peregrine had a vision of the Blessed Mother holding in her hands a black religious habit instructing him to travel to the city of Sienna. There he was clothed in the Servite religious habit by none other than St. Philip Benizi.
